That's a great looking Vette...Sure sounds like it's got all of the right stuff. I've always felt that the early Corvettes were some of the best looking cars ever produced. I had a 61 that I bought when I got out of the army. While in Vietnam someone sent me a hot rod magazine that had an article about installing a what was at the time the newly introduced 427  Chevy big block into a 60's something Vette. I decided that when and if I got home from overseas I would try to find an early Vette and install a big block. Fortunately I did make it back to the states and as luck would have it I found a 61 Vette in my local area that I was able to buy for a really decent price. I went to the local  Chevy dealers parts department and asked if I could order a new complete 427 engine. The parts manager called GM and was told that there was no complete 427 engine available yet and that each part would have to be ordered desperately. After crying on the parts managers shoulder for awhile he couldn't take it any longer and told that if I wanted to stop down early on the next Saturday AM before the dealership open up that he would try to look up all of the parts to put an engine together. As it turns out we were pretty successful in getting everything ordered and in a few weeks I had my father's garage full of engine parts. I took a few months to get everything put together which included me having to fabricate my own front engine mounting brackets and a set of headers but when it was completed it was the talk of the town. I'm not admitting that I would ever street race but somehow it became known that the Vette was the fastest car in town...Ah the memories  ;)

Here is the only picture that I have of the car..Wish I had the foresight to take more.

Always felt that the C1 and C2 vettes were the best looking...probably why they are so expensive.

That's a great story Moose, but forget having more pictures, don't you wish you still had the car?
In 1977 a friend of mine, who was a salesman at the local Chevy dealer called me up. He said he took a 1958 Vette in trade. He told me I could have it for the trade-in value, #3,000. The only problem was, I was 18 and lucky if I had $30.00 let alone $3,000!

Chopper I sure do wish I still had that 61...for that matter there are a few cars I wish I still had but the Vette is the one that always comes up in the BS conversations I have from time to time over a couple of beers when I get together with some of my old friends.

Every time I think about the list of cars I should have bought, or should have kept I want to kick myself! >:(
