Wheel & Tire Sizes
« on: March 01, 2013, 12:57:06 PM »
Now that my chassis is mostly assembled I'm going to be buying my wheels and tires.  After reading Jocko's post about his 33 Chevy and the size of the wheels and tires, I was hoping some of you other guys could let us know what you're running for tire sizes and wheel size and back spacing.  If you have any pictures of your car from the side to see how they fit up would be helpful.  In case you're wondering I'm leaning towards American Racing Torq-Thrust II.

Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

Don't know if you are running fenders on the rear but if I remember correctly on my 33 Master 5W the tire 'center to center" of the stock fenders was 57". Might help determine your backspace....but I'm sure it would be best to mount the axle and fenders..then determine the req'd backspace from that point.

The only reason I went with the stock width fenders was because I bought them...as new fiberglass rear fenders and tailpan for $250 as a package.

I love your choice of wheels. I have used the stock back spacing on  most of my rides which is 3 to 4 inches. The rear axle size will dictate your back spacing I usually run 15 by 5 or 6 inch wheels for the front with 185 r 65 tires and for the rear I use either 225 or 235 r 75 for the rear with 15 by 7 or 8 inch wheels.

I will be running both front and rear fenders.  I have a 2WD S10 rear end measuring 54.5".

Same combo I have, the 2wd "drum brake" axle is 54.5" the "disc brake axle" is either 54.25 or 54.75"..can't remember right now. Have one of each axles in the barn.

My 15X8 wheel back space is 3.25" ..that puts my tires "center to center" at 57" and centered within the fenders.

I used 265-75-15 on the rear and 215-60-14 on the front. I like it, I think I will keep that for a while.
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

FYI only..The  265-75-15 were a hair too wide to fit the stock 33 Master rear fenders...but my 33 is low in the back and I didn't tub out the inside of the fenders.
