HEI DIST QUESTION
« on: January 03, 2018, 12:18:41 PM »
In my 84 blazer k5 it has a distributor that has an aditional 4 prong plug coming from it. Can I put a distributor in it with out this plug on it and bypass these wires? There is no computer.

Some had an ecm and some early ones didn't. This one has just the electronic spark module on top of the glove box. i think I have figured out a couple of ways to get rid of the spark module. 1 replacing the distributor and the other is correcting the original distributor.  I have a new speedway distributor so that's the way I will go.

Ghost i'm glad you got it up and running right. Years ago I had a buddy that had an '85 2dr Caprice Areo Coupe. It had been running crappy so when he finally had time to tune it up (plugs/wires, bug and cap)....didn't change a thing. He came by quizzing me, popped aircleaner off so i could see and I noticed the extra wires on distributor and wires to Q-jet. Walked over to my hoard and handed him a good '76 H.E.I. and a good older Q-jet. I told him me and electronic dodads (ESC,ECM etc) didn't get along, just forget the extra 4-wire plug.  He came back later with a big smile and a good running car ;D
