CL salvage yard ad
« on: September 01, 2017, 03:03:21 PM »
Was cruising thru local Craigslist ad last night. Came across a guy that had a small yard west of here, spotted a fair '59 Elcamino in the pic then a fair '56 Belair 4dr. Passed buy a 4dr shell, came back to it and bing!
I was talking to FATnLOW on the phone this morn, tell him about my find. I see crazy stuff in old shells that most pass up.  I knew it was around a 1940 but had no idea what, hour and a half later I found out what it was. 1940 Packard 120 4dr club sedan.

Yep, i'm nutz ;D  On second look at pic, I was digging on the flow of the rear. I knew I had seen something similar, just smaller. Ah, mid late 30's Fiat 500A Topolino. Man now I see a Fiat coupe on steroids!  Shorten up Packard a couple feet, fenderless, long nose and a Hudson Terraplane grill.

My buddy Shane has met this guy and Shane also has a couple Terraplane grills. So... I called Shane and told him about it. Now his gears are spinning, pending cost of Packard shell! Lol

Speaking of 1940 Packards we have one up for auction at some point (mechanics lien) about 3 miles from here.

Pacalino Terra coupe, love it! ;D   I would guess 50yrs of paint fumes got too me.  Seen Shane this afternoon, said he sold one of his Terraplane grill/headlamp assy but kept the good one. He called the guy and he has the door, hood, grill and much more of it. Price wasn't bad, but he would knock off a good bit to keep grill. Shane has some stuff he wants so there may be a trade made. He does see what I do now. I may have pushed him to the dark side :)

Ed, that Packard looks pretty complete and very restorable. Grandpa had a big 'ol Packard after the war but then he got the Studebaker bug.

Ed, you're not going to believe this one. Three weeks ago a guy I work with shows me pictures of a 1940 Packard his dad stuffed in the garage, and hasn't run, for the last 35 years. Beautiful car, zero rust. I said, "let me know if he ever wants to sell it", thinking he'll never sell or I couldn't afford it. Last week the same guy says, "my dad sold the Packard to some local Packard club for $2,000." My jaw dropped! I didn't have the guts to tell him what I really thought, I just said, "Oh, ok, good for your dad".
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

It's crazy how many "1940 Packard stories" are popping up! I may stop by the auction when they have it.

Did you see what the Packard's sell for?  $2000 would be a down payment.
