Thanks. that will help.
It seems to be a big deal if you mix up Kiwis and Aussies. At Bonneville there are plenty of both and they expect us to know the difference.
A friend from England gets really pissed if someone asks if he's from Australia. He says you can tell because he's not wearing handcuffs.
I went on a rescue mission to help an Australian Inliner who broke down a little over 100 miles from here. We got him back on the road and headed for LA but I only understood about 1/4 of what he said to me.

IN CANADA WE HAVE A PROVINCE CALLED NEWFOUNDLAND AND THEIR DIALECT IS VERY SIMILAR TO NEW ZEALAND, GOOD LUCK FIGURING WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT.
" STAY WHERE YOU ARE TILL I COME WHERE YOUR TO" SOMETHING LIKE THAT..
JUST GOT BACK FROM NEW ORLEANS LOUISIANA, CREOL DIALECT, SAME THING, YOU MAY OR MAY NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT THEY ARE SAYING.

I live in New York State (not NYC) and wear cowboy boots...I just tell everyone that I'm from
Western
New York ie Buffalo.
In NY we call them truck "caps", down south they are "toppers", we have "pop" some use "soda", grocery shopping we use "bags" some use "sacks" etc.

Well I hope y'all don't have an trouble understanding my Merican.
We are quite Americanized down here, with lots of tv shows and movies to learn from, and we love American cars and the culture.
As for the Kiwi verses Aussy thing, that's a whole nuther ball game.
When England was running around trying to conquer the world, a little while ago, they sent lots of convicts to Australia, but not NZ.
We were colonized by a better class of people, and Australians hate this.
They call us the Mexicans of the Pacific, due to a lot of Kiwis moving there, for a better life.
Australia is a hell of a lot dryer, and there's a lot more money to be made.
Kiwis are more cultured, and after living and working in Australia, I discovered what it was like to be a victim of racism..
Now don't get me wrong, I understand why Aussies are so racist, they have many cultures thrust on them, and many problems result from this.
Our language or slang can be similar to theirs, but they would say otherwise.
Here's the bit that annoys me.
At the start of WW1, both our countries were considered to be England's property, we were their loyal subjects.
Gallipoli changed that.
The English Sat at the bottom of the hills on the beaches, and sent many Kiwis and Aussies to their deaths, and we all charged up those hills, getting cut down by the Turks.
Afterwards, the Turks gave us much respect for our bravery, Kiwis and Aussys alike.
The English were considered cowardly scum by us, and both NZ and Australia now figured we had established our own identities.
That's when we become Kiwis, not English subjects.
We have still kept an allegiance with England, but only for political and appearances sake.
The slang term Pom, which is what we call English folk, is said to stand for, Prisoners of mother England.

I learned a very powerful song about Gallipoli. I learned it from a friend who learned it from a Slim Dusty recording. It'll make you cry! "How well I remember that horrible day when our blood stained the sand and the water. In the terrible place that they called Suvla Bay they sent us like lambs to the slaughter."
My father-in-law was a Seabee in WWII. He was not yet 18 when he enlisted. He spent all his time in the South Pacific and spent time in both New Zealand and Australia. He had great respect for both peoples especially their toughness. He would always strike up conversations when he ran into visiters here and often bought drinks and dinners out of his feelings for them.

That's great Sixball. I'll have to look up the song.
There's a rumour in NZ, that the American girls love our accent.
I'm keen to put that to the test, lol.
