hot rod hill climb
« on: September 17, 2016, 08:02:21 PM »
They moved the hill climb from geargetown to central city gambling town in our mountains. I think this was agood move because the event was so much more organized, and well recieved by everyone including the town.  The streets were lined with old hot rod of all kinds, but I have never seen so many old fords with flat heads, bangers and so on. I think every 32 ford that was ever made was in this event. I didn't run because we got my friends new banger engine installed in his 29 ford coupe at the last minute.
have a look at some of the cars and how they launched them up the hill.

What is up with the wooden ramp? Fords need help going up hill? ;) Are they opening up to other pre '55 V8s or still just the protected Ford/Merc flatheads?

sixball. I don't have aclue as to the ramp, at first I thought it was for safety so the cars wouldn't coast back into the crowds, but they started using it to roll the cars up for a quicker start. Maybe those old fords do need a good push to get going some old bangers sure did. In years past there were some small block chevies, but they had hoods on them and maybe weren't seen so they let them run. There were some good looking chevy inliners there, but not to many. I don't know if they would have let me run, but everyone siad I could have. I would have had the best burnout at the start and maybe into second a good squeal of the tires.  ;D :o

Thanks for the pictures. Appreciate the coverage.  Hope to make it there someday. Maybe the ramp is to lessen the chance of broken axles. Ron

Central City, we stop there on our way to see you.  Nice little town.  Should have scheduled my vacation a little later in the year.  Thanks for the cool pics.

At first the rules were cars that could have run there in 1954, the year the Governor of Colorado closed all public roads to racing. But the only V8s they allowed were Ford & Merc flatheads. No Cad flatheads or Cad, Olds, Stude, or Ford overhead V8s. I'd like to go there.

That is just too cool, and in your backyard too.
Next year, I want to see pics, of a certain silver Buick  Roadster doing a smoky burn out.  :D
