1947 Fleetmaster door lock
« on: July 07, 2015, 03:36:59 PM »
I am trying to re-install my driver side door lock after I replaced the clip that holds the shaft in place.  If I try to assemble the lock cylinder with the clip, etc. it will not fit thru the lock case.  If I try to assemble after the lock cylinder is put in the lock case, I cannot engage the clip in the cylinder to lock the shaft in place.  I have the shop manual instructions which shows assembling after the lock cylinder is put in case but then as stated above, the clip tangs cannot be put in the groove on the lock cylinder.

I know there must be a simple explanation but I do need some suggestions or pictures.  Thanks for your help.

It's been awhile since I've done one of these but as I remember, as stated in the installation instructions, you have to use the key to rotate the cylinder back and forth in the housing while applying inward pressure until you get the shaft to line up and drop in all of the way to allow the clip to be installed. There's no trick that I know of... It should go

"Manipulate the key between the locked and unlocked positions until the lock shaft slips into place and allows the lock to be forced all the way in. 7.   Slide the retainer spring into place in the slot, making sure it engages the recesses immediately under the head of the lock"
