Just got off live chat with Vinny at Lowes. As you may know Lowes sells craftsman (no caps from now on) tools. I have a broken 1/4" drive ratchet. Vinny said they only replace for 90 days! I've also noticed craftsman is now made off shore. Better off buying from Harbor Fright at half the cost and better quality.

Up here the Ace Hardware stores has the Craftsman 10 piece rachet and socket set for $9.99 on sale a couple times a year. They have the 1/4 and 3/8 sets in metric and standard in plastic cases.
Harbor Freight does have some nice looking rachets.

Since Sears is pretty much gone I buy a lot more from Harbor Freight. I think their quality if not better has moved up in the ranks of what others are selling and I have had no pushback on returns. Some companies advertise lifetime warranty but it seems the lifetime of the company is shorter that that of the tool. ;D

Craftsman used to be my "go to" tool, you couldn't beat the quality for the price. But, I too have been buying more and more from H.F. I think for the money, most of their hand tools are tough to beat, the rael downside is that they are made in China.....like most everything else.

I'm a Craftsman guy also, I have purchased a few Harbor Freight tools but I look at the resale value

Some ten plus years ago there was a guy who invented an adjustable wrench and had the design patented. Crapsman had an exact copy made off shore and sold it at Sears. I had a set of Craftsman "professional" combination wrenches given to me over 20 years ago. They are longer, thinner and polished. When trying to use them they actually hurt my hands due to the design.

Dad started me out one x-mas back in the mid '60s with a simple Craftsman set. Bought quite a few of them as i had the money from mowing lawns. Bought a lot of S-Ks during my service station days. Always bought Craftsman tool boxes, a lot cheaper than Snap-on/ Mac back then. Craftsman warranty was real good, no questions ask back then. Body shop days I bought mostly Snap-on/Mac pending the dealer. Some were good on repair/replacement some weren't. Just depended on the guy on the truck it seemed. Snap-on seemed to be a bigger fight than Mac was on warranty.

My dad got me started with craftsman. When I died I got his tools some were stolen when I lived in Oakland and most of the rest when I moved to Carson City. I have very few of his tools left. :( I do have his machinist tool box from Douglas Aircraft.
I used to buy Craftsman tools a flea markets & yard sales. If they were worn out or broken I'd make a trip to Sears. I'm probably one of the guys who wrecked it.
When the first tools were stolen in Oakland the insurance would not pay replacement cost because the tools were "old". I showed them the lifetime guarantee on Craftsman. They only payed 50%. When the second bunch was stolen I made an adjustment in my reporting. :o

I just recently swapped a 1/2" ratchet at lowes that ive had for years, (but I didnt tell them that) they swapped it out no problem. 8)
At work we have knipex cutters for cutting hogrings.
Lowes quit selling knipex, so my boss picked us up some craftsman cutters that are great.
Also we had a few expensive heat guns that burned out, he ordered new elements but they burned out as well.
So he grabbed some craftsman heat guns that I thought wouldnt last a week. To our suprise they are still working great weeks later after multiple convertible tops, seats, ect.
Im gonna grab one for home here shortly.
So far impressed.
