Title: F.Y.I. - WIFI
Post by: EDNY on December 18, 2020, 12:15:08 PM
I have a small shop set up in my barn which is about 75' behind our house.  Being rural we only have DSL and our WIFI router is in the house.

The signal strength has been bad so I thought why not try one of these gismos...to my surprise it has increased my signal strength significantly as measured with an online speedtest. I'm running windows 10 on my shop laptop.

Thanks Ed  I have the same setup here. Shop is closer at 40'. Most of the time these things don.t work and I have been looking for something to use my laptop in the shop. I'm going to order one today.  Ron

The USB cable that it comes with is only 18" long...dug through my PC parts and located one about 4' long...so I can position it better. Doesn't say anything about Windows 10 support..but loaded the drivers from the enclosed disc and works fine.

I'm lucky, when my garage was built I had it hard wired for internet access.  I recently added a wireless router plugged into that hard wire so now I have wireless in the garage.  Prior to that the garage was at the opposite end of the house from were my modem is so WiFi wasn't an option.

Tom  That's where I messed up. I had planned on doing that, but was in such a hurry to get power to the shop,, Well you know, just didn't happen.
Ed Thanks for the heads up on the cable.

We have satellite TV and internet on two different dishes. We have a wireless WIFI router for the house and luckily it works in the shop and studio about 20 yards from the house. When there is a better option than Hughes Net I will certainly take it. I keep lookin but my understanding of these things is limited. :(
