Title: Possible new daily driver/tow rig
Post by: Rattiac on September 10, 2020, 08:04:34 PM
Possibly looking for a new daily driver/tow rig. Looking at a V8 midsize truck OR suv. Do any of you have experience with the dodge Dakota or Durango (late 90's or early 2000's) ?

Im finding conflicting reviews but I still see alot of Durango's on the road these days.
Some Dakota's (I've heard dont get cared for and that's why they are more rare).

We had a '99 Durango. They had transmission issues so when the second trans started going we got rid of it. It also had an electrical problem that drained the battery intermittently. I finally figured it out after we sold the car.

A coworker of mine had a Dakota.  Didn't have very good luck with it.  Transmission and front end problems.

Wonder what transmission that was. :o
I've read the 2000 had alot of improvements like a stronger front diff.
One of the things I've been seeing is the transfer case failure (awd) but a jeep NP 231 can be swapped right in for a true 2wd, 4-hi, 4-low.
That's a plus for me. 😉
Also I've been seeing alot of 04-05's with blown engines.

Well the research continues. Finding the unicorn year.

Probably doesn't help but, I had a '95 Durango, no issues. Then I had a '99 Ram 1500, trans went with 225,000 miles on it.

That's good to hear.
Over the weekend I was going to look at a 2000 Dakota but the guy kept putting me off till the next day and then quit returning my texts. 😕

What is the deal with people selling cars???
Kinda gave up my search for now. Maybe next month.

I think they just want to see who might be interested in buying their vehicle with the intentions of not really wanting to sell it
