Title: 29 to 42 rear leafspring info
Post by: Rattiac on September 04, 2019, 02:12:20 PM
My neighbor copied this information for me to pass along.
He works for a leafspring company .
Had him make new leafspring's for my 32 Pontiac
But anything GM will apply.

(I'll be updating this tonight on what measurements mean.)

1.) Yr = year
2.) WID = width
3.) NO LVS = number of leafs
4.) Length
SE --------LE = length short end --------long end
5.)  FREE ARCH === (This is the imagery line between the center of each bushing and the distance between that and the top of the leave)
Leafspring removed of course.
6.)  BUSHINGS-----  SE & LE  (bushing sizes)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
One thing to note is the LENGTH ----SE  &   LE
Is only the top leaf measurement , it doesn't show what the below leafs measure out to.

Also thickness is something to think about also.
My leafs measure out to 275.
Due to the economy the spring place has 2 thicknesses on hand but would have to order the steel in.
So my leafs will be (291 on the top leaf and 262 for the other six)

Good info Rattiac. Not sure how this might apply to your car, but when I had my springs made to factory specs. the front and rear sat too high, even with the weight of the V8. So, I had the eyes reversed and took out one leaf. Just saying.

Yeah, the fronts I had done were the right ride height but are still a bit stiff. Removed 2 leafs and maybe take one more out once I find a sway bar that'll fit.
Right now im trying to get the car level (leans to the L.R.) before I rip the wood out for steel.

Too bad you can't scan the documents and save/attach them as pdf.

I'll ask him about that. Maybe he can do that.

Got the call , springs are done. 😁

My computer printer/copier can scan as an image or pdf.
