Title: Chevy pickup question
Post by: munch on August 11, 2019, 01:42:17 PM
I may have mentioned that I am building a 1952 Chevy pickup on an S10 frame.  The rear of the frame where the rear end goes is 40 inches outside to outside.  I am trying to determine what width rear end I can use and fill the fender well so it looks good.  I found a Camaro 10 bolt that is about 53 inches, not having a body, bed or fenders at this point, it is difficult to tell.

Does anyone have any experience they can share?

Thanks

I think the stock S10 2WD rear end is 54 inches (wheel mounting surface to Wheel mounting surface) so if the Camaro rear end is 53 inches that will only gain 1/2 inch per side.

I put a 2001 (+/-) S10 Blazer in my son's 37 Master...it has a mounting surface of 59".  Couldn't use the disc brake version because the calipers hit the leaf springs...had to go drums.  No problem if you are going four link.

In my 33 Master used a 2001 S10 2WD xtreme  axle (8.5") with the 54" mounting surface.

BTW: Are you sure the Camaro is 53"?  That might be the back plate measurement and not the mounting surface distance.

Thanks guys.  According to some online research, 59 to 60 is the preferred width.  I believe an S10 4wd is 59 1/2.

S10 Blazer is what you want....don't grab a ZR2 axle..they are really wide.
