Title: Mounting a power steering pump
Post by: munch on July 14, 2019, 02:19:20 PM
I got a power rack for my Kugel ISF and they told me a standard Saginaw pump would work, so I got a pump and ordered brackets.  The problem is that when mounted, the pulley sits out farther that the water pump or crank pulleys.  I run a SWP for clearance purposes. Any suggestions?

Munch I think mine is the same power steering pulley as yours and I'm running short water pump. Stock Corvette and Camaro (probably others) with P.S. and A/c used a lower crank 3rd pulley (crank double plus P.S. single pulley) set up.  This pulley mounts in front of double on the crankshaft.

I'll try and get a tape of the distance the 3rd pulley sticks out to see if it's close to what you need, and get back on here.

Pic of pulley
Pic of mine, P.S. belt goes on the most forward groove.

Ok Munch, my power steering pulley measures 2" from the resevor tank to center of power steering pulley groove.

The 3rd pulley measures 3 5/8" from timing gear cover (factory stamp steel) to center of groove on the most outward crank pulley.

I hope this helps. I think Chevy made some backset P.S. pulleys but i don't think they lined up to the 1st crank pulley groove, but the 2nd groove.

Sorry pics maynot be clear or at right angle, having hell of a time tring to hold tape and phone at the same time! :D

Munch, sorry. Please disregard info above. It won't work on your high mount pump set up. Just got my phone to blow pic up, thought it was a mid mount, (mine is a low mount) The belt would never clear your water pump pulley.

The make different depth pump pulleys, (single and double groove) to set belt back closer to pump. Maybe the Co. that you bought mount from may have  or recomend propper set back.

Good luck!

Sammons

I think that the picture is deceiving as my mount, although after market, mounts in the same place as yours.

Lol, must be the angle. I first thought low, then mid, then finally got to enlarge....it looked high. ;D

My buddy had the shop open, so I looked for my pulleys. Couldn't find one just like mine.  :(
Did spot that Summit has 3 groove aluminium crankshaft pulleys for short water pump.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, I located an addon pulley like yours and I'm good to go.  Thanks Sammons....
