Title: Torque Wrenches ?
Post by: EDNY on March 16, 2019, 08:23:27 PM
A couple years I bought an ACDELCO ARM602-4 "torque cube" to predominately calibrate my click torque wrenches.  My click torques wrenches are only good up to 100lbs and the ACDELCO cube took care of my needs up to 147 ft lbs.

Tried to use the cube the other day and the audible "beep alert" stop working...that feature is a must as you are torquing.

Anyway it's out of warranty and I contacted ACDELCO requesting the repair process, they responded that they don't do any cube repairs and pointed me to the manufacturer DUROFIX 909-980-3323...of course Durofix isn't responding.

So here I am..I would like to purchase another electronic torque cube (not an ACDELCO) and was wondering if you guys have any experience with the other brands...(ie Quinn @ Harbor Freight etc)

by the time you do all the screwing around , paying to get that thing fixed, you could purchase a brand new 3/8 and 1/2 torque wrenches and maybe a 1/4 for little stuff, all from harbor freight.

I cannot believe they sell that stuff that cheap.  If your on the mailing list the have parking lot sales and other super extravaganza sale.  I go to the one in Brockport NY every 3 months when I go to pickup all my purchases from ebay.

Harborfreight has that Quinn on sale for something like $30 (before discount coupon)...did a search and it has good feedback.  I'll just grab one... not happy with ACDELCO.

I like Harbor Freight, and since I'm not working on airplanes their quality is good for me.

Drove down to HF yesterday (40 miles round trip) to buy the torque cube for $29 (before discount) and they were out. They said they normally don't sell many of them but for some reason there was a run on them?  Must have been the guys watching this forum ;D ;D ;D

Said OK then I'll buy some drill bits and get a free moving blanket....they were out of moving blankets.

Once you get the Torque all figured out and new equipment along comes the LS engines which are torqued by degrees!  Can't win.

Same with this Jeep engine I just put together...but I found a source with straight torque specs so I didn't have to degree the nuts.

How about the other method of torquing rod bolts by stretch with a micrometer :o
