Title: Electric Garage door opener - pulley or chain?
Post by: EDNY on July 05, 2018, 07:54:17 AM
Just built a 3.5 car garage for my wife, only have one door 7X10 insulated.  Should I go with a pulley style or chain style garage door opener? Most likely will use a 3/4hp motor.

I have three overhead doors and use chain driven openers 1/2 hp they've been in operation for 12 years with no service issues.

C,MON  Ed. I could use a big garage also. I use a chain style. One genie and one chamberlain. both work great.

Those belt drive doors use what looks like a serpentine belt, would think they would make less noise.

Right now to open the door she beeps once, to close it she beeps twice..just getting tired of running out there working the rope. ;D

I have three Lift Master Professionals with a belt drive.  Have had them for 12 years with no issues.

Got home the other day and my wife had a "Genie" brand waiting in the garage.  It's a belt drive, quiet and pretty straight forward installing...never got to use my research ;D
