I just got an estimate to chrome my grille shell at $1500 tp $2000, isn't that expensive?

chrome plating has gotten seriously nuts in last 5 years due to government regulations in the industry.

Price is always about the quality of the item to begin with , that you are handing too them . Less prep less price, more prep more price, that simple.

I think if you look it up your rad shell was originally nickel plated ?  I would make a post on the VCCA CHAT 1929--32 section, they have lots of experts willing to answer you.

I had my grille shell along with some other small parts for my 33 done a couple of years ago and it was more than that.  I had mine done at Paul's Chrome north of Pittsburgh Pa.  I was very happy with the results.  You could email pics of what you want done and they send you a quote.  Be sure to go with a company that has good reviews or you know someone that went there.  I had to learn the hard way.

One thing you may want to consider is that chrome plating process that I've seen where they do a whole car is seconds.  I think newer cars with plastic parts are done like that.  Where to find a company to do it and samples is another story.
