Title: Clock face
Post by: 39delux on April 03, 2018, 08:02:24 PM
How easy it is to get sidetracked.  Couldn't see the hands on the glove box door so I painted them white.  Ended up being to close to the plexiglas and the clock stopped.  Decided to try and make a domed cover so I made a simple buck (mold?), clamped a small piece of plexiglas in it and heated it with the heat gun.  Got to hot to fast and got some bubbles in it but I did get a dome.  Second time around I fired up the BBQ and got the temp to about 350, let the 'glas set in there for about 15 minutes then pushed and slug into the soft plexiglas.  Think the results were good.

Thanks for the kind words all.  F & L the burl was one of my projects.   Practiced for a month 'till ready to do the garnish moldings and the dash.  If you put it alongside the real thing mine falls flat but that's one reason I stay away from Pebble Beach!

That's not sidetracked, 39delux, that's art! That burl looks plenty good to me. And, now you've given me an idea. I have a big blank spot on the right side of my dast....maybe a clock...? ::)

In the mid 60s I ad a job robbing stage coaches in Columbia California. My friend's dad worked for the State Parks as maitainace man. His special skill was painting pine to look like more exotic woods. It was really fun to watch him transform doors, paneling, and the r trim into things of real beauty, Yours looks  good to me. It makes me ashamed of the near perfect '48 dash I painted rattle can black. :(
