Title: Joining window rubber seals
Post by: EDNY on December 27, 2017, 04:48:30 PM
Entering the glass stage of my 33M and just picked up a sheet of hardboard to make window templates for the glass cutting shop.

I have the windshield rubber (25') from Steele Rubber Parts and will need to join the rubber seals before wrapping and installing the glass.

What procedure and products did you use to permanently join the rubber gaskets together?  (I have automotive tire patch glue).

Thanks

Ed   In the past I have used Loctite super bonder 495, plus I cut the ends at an angle for more contact surface. Ron

EDNY..................doesn't steele rubber recommend a particular compound for joining rubber together ?

Thought I remember them recommending something ?????   when I was buying windshield rubber for my coupe .  Came in a tube and was a brand name I remember.

I looked around their web site and didn't see anything.

Ed...Steele Rubber recommends this for modifying weatherstrips. Might be worth looking into..

I use the gel type superglue.  I started using it when  I ran across an "O" ring kit.  The kit had a few feet of different sizes of "O" ring rubber, that you cut to length and the super glued the ends together.
Clean the cut ends with acetone to get the best hold.
