Title: 1991 Yugo Electric Conversion
Post by: Coley on February 25, 2013, 12:17:54 AM
This is about as far from a GM as I have tried.

It is a 1991 Yugo that I turned into an electric car.

When gas hit $4.00 a few years ago, I looked around for a cheap car to go to sales with.

I was driving one and a fellow wanted to give me one for free.

Well, I like the free sign on anything so I got it and stripped out the engine and all the crap that goes with one.

It is very fun to drive and I love only going to a gas station only to buy pop.

I am not driving it at this time because of a battery going bad last fall.

You can check out the build on this website:

Going to get it out soon and run it as gas is creeping back up again.

That's pretty slick.....too many batteries for me.  I have a wind turbine project that I need to get up and can't find the time for.

Thanks for sharing the story.

Greg, that is pretty cool.  Yugos are rare enough but an electric one must get lots of comments.  Nice job.
