Title: Not GM Maybe a lesson
Post by: ChevRon on June 15, 2017, 12:49:37 PM
Ed if this is out line let me know or delete it.This is my shopmate's 32 Ford. this is a real Henry steel body.  He was having it tuned by a local guy to get more mileage after an engine change. Car has about 130,000 miles on it. Yes he drives the crap out it. Long story, but the short story. The tuner had the car at his house and was supposed to have it done at a certain time, but got behind and hurriedly tried to finish it. Went for test drive, forgot to install return springs on carb, went wide open, hooked up went sideways then straighten out then sideways again. Went through a neighbors iron gate hit a concrete flower planter and the he got it stopped.
So I thought maybe this would make us think a little harder when we get in a hurry,  although I know the guys on here are the best at what they do.
Some pics before and after. Luckily, believe it or not, there was no damage to the body.

HEY!!! NO FORDS!!!  ;) Just kidding. That's a nice looking car and although that's a tough break, at least, like you said no body damage. That's the silver lining. Good advice too. Sometimes you are so familiar with, or good at a job that you become complacent or rush, and that's when accidents happen. Lucky no one was hurt too.....unless your buddy punched the tuner in the nose ::)

ChevRon, is that a half-windshield wiper on that Ford? (assuming so the wiper sits tight against the windshield frame).

Chopper- I made the arm to sit against the frame. He didn't punch the tuner , but was actually ok with it as he was getting ready to paint the car.

Guess it could have been worse and no one got hurt (yet ;D)  Reminds me of local up here working on a snowmobile last year, somehow the carb was stuck open and when he pulled the rope starter it started, left his yard, crossed the road and wedged under his neighbors truck.

Great looking car.

Thank God it was a Ford that got damaged and not a Chevy ;D Just Kidding!!!  Glad no one got hurt and thanks for posting.  Good looking ride, shame it got banged up but could have been worse.

Your friend is nicer than me. I'd be in jail now. >:(  It would look good without fenders. :)

Ed That would be very embarrassing, having your snowmobile stuck under a truck across the street. My best friend all these years had a 29 Ford sedan delivery. It was painted candy apple red and had a 4 speed. He reached in and hit the starter and it started and went through the wall and destroyed the kitchen in the house along with the front of the car. His wife was really P O. They are divorced.

Sixball I think I would have retaliated also. My friend is very easy going. I guess that's why we still share a shop.

28chevyguy A lot of damage. Axle was a Pete & Jake . I was surprised it cracking like that. Doors and trunk lid all open and close as before. Door gaps all good. The car has a full roll cage built in, so it probably helped the body.

Moose  I especially don't like seeing a hot rod wrecked.

Car is going to Roy Brizio for repair.

Well I guess if you haven't been paying bail bondsmen and lawyers you might be able to afford Brizio. A good reason to be easy going. :)

A few years back at Hot August Nights a guy in a Vette got his feet tangled and powered into the rear of a street rodded '37 Ford. Good thing the Ford was there it was ruined anyway.  :o

Yea without paying for lawyers and other legal fees lol , but I think insurance is taking care of this.

Hope no one was hurt when the Vette hit the 37.

luckily he has a 32 ford as I believe that front fenders , + rear , and running boards are made STEEL reproduction.

Tuner guy is going to get a hell of a bill just for parts.

Sixball  You don't seem like a guy that gets in trouble that much.   ;)

madmike3435..All that was damaged is reproduction to begin with, so you are right. Makes it a little easier, Although I know the Brookville front fenders need work to match. Ron

A buddy of mine replaced his front brake pads and got in a hurry. He didn't pump the brake to test them, went to back out of the garage instead of putting the car in reverse he put it in drive car went forward he stepped on the brakes had none and ran into his work bench and damaged his right front fender >:( yes he was angry with himself for getting in a hurry

In the end, your friend will have a nice car, and a good story to tell.

A friend of mine drove his hot Rodder 38 Ford truck across the country a couple of hundred miles to a hot rod event.
As He was slowly turning into the fairgrounds, his front axle snapped.
Not a lot of damage, but it caused world wide repercussions in the aftermarket hot rod world.
