not need captions (since there are none). If you didn't live in the 50's, see what you missed.

A lot of memories there, Thanks. We collected Gun Brothers and Blue Chip stamps too. Did any of you ever have Sea Monkeys? Huge Davy Crockett fan!

Are your talking about the sign off symbol of a TV station at the beginning? It was a symbol used by TV stations when they were signing on and off the air, back in the day TV station only broadcasted so many hours a day not 24 like they do now.

They called them the "Test Pattern" Before the station came on in the morning you could use it to adjust the brightness, focus and contrast of your TV set. Later you could adjust the color and tint. Sometimes they played music when they weren't broadcasting picture. A simpler time. :)

Yep, around midnight when programing was over the national anthem would play(usually with a pic of the flag waving). Then either the test pattern or snow. Then in the morning the test pattern would be on for 15mins or so before programing would start.
A friend of mines father was an RCA dealer, repairman. He had some box that would wire into the antenna lead with the pattern for setting the b/w tvs and a newer color bar for setting color tv's.
I remember the Indian head pattern the most on the local CBS station.

Oh, haha. My little town didn't even get "pulse tone" phones with the push buttons till the late 70s :) Both my shop phones were Ma Bell rotary phones untill about 2010 when I turned them back to AT&T. Had a fella (around 30yrs old) that broke down and wanted to use my phone. I kept pointing to the bench and said there, he said "how does that work? I have never seen one" ;D
They had a good loud ringer and dust/overspray never effected the rotary dial, you would grab the lacqure thinner and wipe off the numbers once in a while so you could read them. Damn neart indestructable! ;D
