Title: 1928 Auburn Sedan. Suggestions
Post by: 28chevyguy on December 17, 2016, 09:06:10 PM
Ok , So i bought this 28 auburn sedan  , The wood is all shot , the driver door is there but needs heavy rehabilitation ... not the end of the world.   The motor havnt tried , prob stuck.

soo Auburn Cord duesenberg co:  on the phone told me the car being a 6 cyl sedan , wood spoke wheels not worth really restoring ,  valued the car around 5-8K as it sits.... to the right buyer that is

IM thinking it would be cooler  hot rodded .  car looks like a  killer mob car...
Its got hydraulic brakes and open drive shaft... any visions?

Im thinking just replace the wood with metal and get it back to a runner one way or another.
Wood spoke wheel not to excited about ...maybe I can get some kind of adapters for the knock offs.

It is currently on craigslist for sale / trade .

the wire wheels in front are bolted through the wood spoke rimsand are actually ford wires.

somebody somewhere has probably made a street rod out of a pre 1930 auburn, but I don't ever remember seeing coverage of one, especially in street rodder who thinks the world adores 32 fords and we should all have one.

These auburns had some interesting body lines, look at the side louvers on the hood.. The stock motor was made by LYCOMING .

Resurrecting one of these big boys is a major challenge if your missing a lot of stock body parts.

Myself I love it when I go to the major meets and see the pre 1940 oddball cars done right.

Somewhere between where it is and where it was lies a really cool old car. I really love old cars that are what they have become but you've gotta' catch them before this. There seem to be lots of originals left so do what you want. Here is a quick Google search.

NOTICE THE 1928'S GREAT BODY LINES STARTING AT THE RAD SHELL A PERFECT LINE IN THE HOOD SO EASY TOO 2 TONE IT..
NICE FOLLOW THRU DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR.
ALSO NOTE THE SPECIAL WINDSHIELD ASSEMBLY SPLIT INTO 2 PARTS.
THERES THOSE REALLY SLICK HOOD SIDE PANEL VENTS.

THE CHALLENGE HERE IN STREET RODDING THESE BIG BOYS IS A FRONT SUSPENSION TO GET IT DOWN IN THE WEEDS UP FRONT AND TO GET BIG ENOUGH TALL TIRES TO FILL THE REAR WHEEL OPENING .

POSTED 2ND PICTURE THAT MATCHES THE ORIGINAL POSTERS SEDAN BODY STYLE

EYEBALLING THE 2 PICTURES, I WOULD SAY THAT THE BLACK CAR HAS A MUCH LONGER WHEELBASE THAN THE SANDY BEIGE ONE.

That is really neat. Knowing how much I like sedan deliveries. I could be dangerous with that car

Found this photo on car nut.....http://www.carnut.com/photo/contrib/hourie/pic2148.jpg.                   I think it would make a neat streetrod.

That would make a cool hot rod. Kinda like Ghosts idea, panel. ;)  I would be tempted to shorten the body, eliminating the front door area. I've seen some others of this type 4dr sedans shortened, (gives you a suicide frt door) and a rather long nose, (which I like ;D).
