Title: Soap under your finger nails
Post by: EDNY on December 15, 2016, 07:19:48 PM
Here's a simple trick..before you start working on a nasty greasy project..take a bar of soap and scrape it with your fingernails. The soap prevents the grease from getting under your nails and washes out a lot easier than grease!

Haha, hell I thought most car guys new that trick? I hate greasy mech work, and would always do that, (paint days too if it was close to the week end). The girls always complained that my hands were rough (my response was, "Sorry, I work for a living"). ;D   But my finger nails were clean! ;)

Don't want to sound like a sissy (I used to think guys who did this were), but most dirty jobs I do now I wear surgical rubber gloves.

I never heard of this before and evidently neither did my dad. His main objection when I said I wanted to be a mechanic like him was that he didn't want my hands to look like his most of the time. So I mostly did other stuff but my hands were still nasty looking. ::)

25yrs ago when my grandpa was still working cattle, one of the cowhands wife insisted on her husband always wearing gloves with Bag Balm in them. Grandpa said the first time he met him and shook his hand he thought the guy was a foreman that never worked. He always teased him about it. He said the fella had softer hands than a lot of women! ;D
