Title: 1933 - 35 Tail Light Housing
Post by: TFoch on February 05, 2013, 12:35:31 PM
I'm looking for a pair of Tail Light Housings for my 33 Chevy.  I checked with Filling Station, I&I and AAA Parts but they are out of stock and don't know when they'll be getting some. I have a pair of lens so I won't need those.
Thanks, Tom

I also could use some of them.
I used to cast them in ZA for a long time and they sold well.

May see if I can do them again.

They are hard to cast as thin as the steel stamping, but it can be done.

The hard part is making a lamp holder for them.

Possibly the LED kits would be the way to go.

Hello Tom,
Does anyone supply the small triangle license light surround for these housings?

Filling Station has them listed as P/N GR335 & GR337 on page 217 of their on line catalog but I don't know if they have them in stock.
I&I has them as P/N BC-11D & BC-11P.

I started the 1935/36 housings, as I have a good one for a pattern.

Will  see how they go before the 1933/34s.

Great keep us updated.  I did win a pair of the original Tail Light Bezels on Ebay.  They need to be re-chromed but look to be in good shape.

LOL I almost bid on those rings, but found a set I had put away and forgot I had them.

Got the core pattern made for the inside of the buckets, today.

I did win an original one on Ebay so I'm still looking for one more.  I'll be hitting the automotive flea market this weekend so maybe I'll find one there.

Ebay is the only place I see them. But they go for crazy money. I found one on etsy.com  that was an artists wall hanging with the license plate bracket for $10.00. Rough but very restorable and in my budget.

Yeah they do go for a lot of money on EBay.  I was watching one this week with the lens and bezel that went for over $80 plus shipping.  Didn't find any at the flea market, only lenses and bezels.

Yeah got two. The black one didn't look like it had the recess  but I got it anyway.  It'll be a good spare.

Hi Tom, I often wonder how many of my friends I am bidding against to buy parts. I have been looking for the tail light buckets myself for almost 2 years and am still looking. There is a fellow that makes resin copys of the buckets and that might be how I will have to go. I liked the old ebay system where you knew who was bidding. I got into a bidding war once only to find out it was a buddy I was bidding against, We flipped a coin to see who would win as we had already drove the price up to twice what the parts were worth. I lost but more importantly we kept the price  to an reasonable amount. If Coley decides to make them again, I hope he will sell me a set.

Hi Bill,
I looked into the resin ones but they would have cost me more than the one I got on EBay.  I was lucky to get them in the condition they were in.  The Filling Station and I&I have the repro buckets in chrome but they've been out of stock for a few years.  I was planning on buying the ones that Speedway had for 37 - 38 Chevy for $20 each until I found the right ones.  I agree that it was better when you could see who you were bidding against.  I sure that most of us on here watch for some of the same parts.

I was talking on this same subject to JOE Iaccino in phoenix ARZ, who has a pretty rare 1933 Chevrolet standard 3 window coupe with rumble seat.  They did not offer the rumble with 34-35 std's.

Apparently he thinks the tail light pot with no identation and bulb partially sticking thru rubber grommet, is a 1933 Chevrolet std series only and the taillight pot with the indentation and stainless triangle piece is a 33 master and used on 34 master and 34-35 standards.

One other maker of tail light pots supplied for the aftermarket supplied was EVELITE, these typically had the license plate supplied glass across the top.  I think a company called KY-LITE also supplied the 33-35 tail light pot.

NOTE....the 1935 Chevrolet master and the -1936 master/standard series tail light pot is much longer where the pot mounts to the tail light arm.  Does not fit the 33 master/std, 34 master/standard--35 standard tail light arm.  These 35/36 have a L bracket on the rear of the pot riveted on and thats how you easily identify them.

NOTICE on the pot marked EVELITE in the top, in the 2nd picture that SAME pot has GUIDE STAMPED on the back.......this stuff gets crazy......lmao

Ok, now I am confused again. will these new buckets work for a  '36 master coupe?  I was under the impression that they were the same.
Thanks for any info about the tail light buckets.

NOPE, the 1935--1936 master 1936 standard. the tail light pot is different and is shaped to fit the correct tail light arms where they come together.

The tail light lens for 1933---1936 is the same , just the pot changed where it mounts.

I had a right side pass side pot for 20 + years and when I went to inventory the parts for my 35 std roadster build,  I found the pot was wrong and would not match up with 33--35 arms.  Took me a week to sort out what it fit.  The right side does not have license hole in it.  Put it on ebay and it sold for $210 !!!!   surprise surprise.

There is a lot of 35-36 parts around as those cars were not popular with restorers or rodders.  With the demand for the 32--35 driving the prices way up, and the 39--40 cars, the shift has been too the 35-36 and a lot are being built.

You can thank wes rydell and chip foose for the GRAND MASTER Detroit riddler win on the $1.5 million build for the increased popularity.

LOOK for the L bracket riveted to the rear of the tail light pot , as that is how they are easily identified.   You should be able to come up with some on ebay USA.

If the seller will not ship to Canada, then ask somebody on here to receive the package and forward it too you and pay them for gas and postage to go to P O.

there is nothing listed on ebay usa for 35-36 chev tail light pots for your master.

So went into the completed listings and found a set of pictures of the correct tail light pot for 1935-1936 master and 1936 standard.   In 3rd picture the rear L bracket is missing off the pot.  Notice the shape of the tail light pot from the side as it dips into a very nice curve, much more swoopy & exaggerated than the 33--35 pot .  Altho its hard to see , the rear mounting area has a diff shape than 33-35 as its longer.

In picture #1, note the pot only has one bulb holder.......should have 2, one for brakes on bottom and other is top running lamp bulb and the license plate bulb.

I had that pot for 20 & years in a cabinet and never noticed it was diff !!!!!!!!!!

luckily I have most of the 34-35 parts I need, buying a pair of nos running boards with mats on ebay and a couple of NOS tail light pots .   So you do not have to worry about me outbidding or driving up the prices.
