Title: Jeep timing cover alignment tool
Post by: EDNY on August 25, 2024, 07:25:36 AM
Recently picked up a 1990 Jeep Wrangler basketcase. Installing a new timing chain set I didn't realize that the 4 and 6cyl engine timing chain covers don't have alignment pins like the GM engines.  Some guys insert the crank balancer partially using the seal to center the cover, then insert the bolts, tried that and cover was still off center (seal rubber was not rigid enough)

There are factory and aftermarket installation tools $$$ but:

I used an old 3/4" drive socket I picked up at a garage sale and rounded out the square hole to fit the crank, milled a slot to clear the crank key and finally turned down the OD. Install without seal nice and tight now.
