Title: 68 Camaro Steering Column ... Trying to reassemble .
Post by: 28chevyguy on September 13, 2017, 02:53:11 PM
This is a regular non-tilt 68 camaro column,   Everything taken apart by previous owner decades ago...  Can anyone tell me what the heck im missing here?   I wanted to lay the parts out to paint but not doing that unless I know it goes back together ... Right now seems like im missing a vital piece or too ..   would love to get it together or look for another column or parts column if needed.

I didn't see the upper bearings at first, but see they are still in the hub. Guessing most is there. I've rebuilt a bunch of those, but that was quite a while back and I have slept since then, (can't remeber much of anything anymore)  :-[
I thought I had my 67 Camaro manual here but it must be boxed up at the shop somewhere. I can't find the 67-68 exploded view on the net. You might try the 1st gen Camaro forum or 2nd gen Chevelle, they are the same. Most Gm standard columns are the same basic design. 69 got more complicated with the ign switch, shifter adds more also.

I tried getting on both sites, phone will only get text and won't show pics unless i join :(   I'll bet the chevy pick up and vans are the same from 67 up to around 1972 if you need cheap parts at the salvage yard.

There is a series of youtube clips (1 thru 4) under 1967 Chevelle steering column rebuild. ( not the exact wording!)  Here is a couple pics I pulled down, probably can't see much, sorry!

Don't know if this will help...just found it online.  Saved it in RTF format.
