When I got my license in 1961 California they often pulled is over to measure ground clearance and headlight height. While they had us stopped they would often do a "full" safety inspection. Not many cars passed.

I remember Dad talking about the CHP having check points on ground clearence in the early 60s. Said they carried a 6" ball that they would roll under the car and it had better not get stuck😁

Guessing a Hot Rod and Lowrider thing, hoodlems you know!

I nothing wrong with checking heights, some people push things to the unsafe extremes
