Whats the longest you've owned a car ?
« on: January 29, 2013, 03:43:51 PM »
Over the years I've owned a lot of cars and most of them were either sold or traded after a year or two. When I got my 32  back in 1972 I really had no idea that I would still own it 40 years later. Something about the car won't let me get rid of it......So what's the longest that you've ever owned a car ?

Never really had a car too long...my jobs kept me moving all over the country.  Did rack up 320,000 miles on my 1988 Astro van! ;D

1996 Chevy S-10, owned it for 14 years.  ::)
Did own one of my 55's for about 5 years. Plan on keeping the '27 for a long time.

Wow 320,000 mile must be some kind of a record.....They should have used your van in one of their TV commercials!

I did redo the engine and tranny at one point, cracked 4.3 head passenger side and torque converter. The only reason I junked it is because the rust was making it disappear, rear bumper fell off etc.

Wish they still made them...loved those 2WD units!

There are still a few around with SBC's.

I bought a 1967 Mustang convertible in the summer of 1976. I still have it, going on 37 years! It was the 2nd car I ever bought. My first car was a 1969 Dodge Coronet 4 door. I drove that for about 5 or 6 months and it took a beating...literally! So, after the Coronet took its licks I wanted something cool to drive that would fit in with the crowd at the gas station where I had just started working. I was 17 and my dad went to look at the Mustang with me. It ran good and looked good, but there was a constant drip from the rear of the transmission. When I told my dad I still wanted to buy the car, he told me how stupid I was to buy a car that might need a transmission. The guy wanted $500. I offered $400. and bought the car. Turned out I fixed the trans with a five dollar tailshaft seal. It's the only time my dad ever admitted he was wrong and probably the the only time he was wrong. He and I always got a little chuckle out of it. Maybe that's why I can't get rid of the Mustang. He was a good man.
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

I bought my 1933 3 window coupe from a fellow in Freeport Illinois that had stripped it out to make a stock car.  It had 33,000 miles on it.
I traded him a running 1955 Chevy 4 door.
That was in 1964.
I still have it in my garage, but haven't driven it for 15 years.
I drove it to the National Street Rod events in the '70s,
I drag raced it in the late '60s.  Turned 14 seconds flat, 101mph at the Byron Drag Strip, with a fuel injected 301 and a cast iron glide.
Its waiting for my son to get out of the Air Force and get settled.
Great car with a lot of years of fun, except when I wrecked it in 1976.
It is all back together and has a bored 250 6 cylinder, Jahns cast racing pistons, balanced, Clifford intake with an AFB on it, silicone brake flud, narrowed 1955 year axle and turbo 350.

My first "NEW" car was a 1970 Blazer. I still have it. We bought a '62 Porsche Super 90 Coupe in '71 and we still have that though it isn't running now. I got my '53 Chevy pickup in '73 and It is my every day ride.  Last night I was playing a guitar that my folks gave me for Christmas in 1952. It was not a new guitar then. I still have my first wife and she hates it when I call her that. 8)  I think I'm a hoarder. I've got some pretty old underwear too.  ::)
