Title: 700R4 Wiring
Post by: TFoch on February 01, 2014, 08:17:49 AM
Jef,
I'm wiring my 33 and I have a 700R4 installed.  The transmission is stock and is serial number 7YNM148C out of an 87 Caprice Police car.  I want to have a switch so I can stop the converter from locking up while driving in town.  I also want it to unlock when I apply the brakes.  I sketched this schematic and wanted to know if it is correct.  Can you take a look and let me know?
Thanks,
Tom

Hey Tom,
That's perfect. If you want you can just ground the TCC solenoid inside the trans instead of outside. If you want it to come on just in 4th you can use a pressure switch in the 4th gear tap and do it that way. I have pictures I can send on if you want to see where it goes. Jef

Thanks Jef.  I'll probably leave it like it is for now but setting it up so it only locks up in fourth would be good information.

No hurry, enjoy the warmer temps in Florida.

Does your Police 700R4 have the 1st gear lock out bracket mounted on the tranny? It prevents the car from being dropped into first gear. In pursuits we were taught to drop the car into 2nd gear for prompt acceleration and engine braking.

Ed,
It doesn't have that bracket. I got the transmission from the guy that pulled it from a wrecked police car.  He may have removed it.

And don't get messed up with not shifting into 4th at WOT with a first design 700, that's the way they were built. They won't shift into 4th at more than 75% throttle. But there is a cure for that, but it calls for removing the valve body and changing a valve. If you do go that far put a Transgo reprogramming kit and new valve body spacer plate from Transgo. The kit is called 700 2+3. It fully corrects the TV issues. And with the new plate you can drill out what you Ned according to Transgo's recommendations. You'll love it. And use Torlon check balls.
