Today on my way home from work I passed a car stuck into the snow bank near the highway on ramp .there was a truck behind her trying to help shovel her out.  His friend was standing behind the truck waving traffic over and no hazards on, black clothing.
I thought that's a dangerous situation for him
Flipped around and turned the strobes on and found a place to hook up (rear x-member) while he dug out behind her tires.  Now her bumper was already falling off.  I was worried about that but she said no problem.
Got her pulled out and everyone safely back on the road.
Each time I do this I always think,  how could I have done this better
With darkness approaching I need to make myself more visible and how to hook 🪝up quicker.
Those straps with the hooks actually help with these smaller cars. Have a few of those at work.

I do the street stuff rarely but each time you learn new things.
Hats off to the 2 guy's assisting.  Thier help saved time.
Had her out in 10 minutes.

You are a good man! Yes you must be visible. I can not believe how often people are killed here because they were not seen while dealing with roadside car issues, even police officers. Also how many people wear dark clothes at night and think because they can see the cars that drivers can see them.

Some of the new recovery straps are great tools. I need to add a reflective vest or jacket to my kit. Flares & big reflectors too.

Good on ya Rattiac. I ran into several of those ingreats/flakes during my towing days. I hated high way recoveries, almost nobody slows down even with flairs and triangles out😡

Trooper called me out one day to get a guy out of the ditch. I told him i'd do it for $25 because it was just 3 mile outta town. I asked if they had the cash as i had been burnt a month before. He said they did. I double checked that it wasn't more than 30' off the asphalt as i only had 40' of cable and the wrecker would get stuck if it got into the mudd. He said all good.
I got out there, car was 45' out in the mudd. I drove down anyway, with weight on i thought i might get out. Hooked him up and got on to high way. Asked the guy for cash....."oh, i don't have it" looked at the Trooper and said "you told me he had the cash and it was less than 30' off the road". He said "well we needed it out of there". I said a few bad words, then "piss on this". Trooper " what are you gonna do?" I said "put him back". Trooper said "you can't do that!" I circled back around and dropped it right back where i picked it up and it took me 150' or so before i got back up out of the ditch.

Trooper came back to the shop 3hrs later, they had to call a truck out of Dodge and towed it to there yard because of non payment.😁 He did appoligise, i told him that's fine, but never call me again.

I forgot to mention, he lied to the Trooper about having the money. I can still see the smerk on his face when he told me he didn't have the money😡   I am more than happy to help someone when they are honest up front, being played/lied to....nope!

There's no worse feeling than being taken advantage of and knowing it, I was in sales for 36 years, I had a few customers that would call with a problem, I would give them the solution and they would tell me to send them a quote and then buy it somewhere else. After a few times I wouldn't give them the correct part numbers, I figured my time and knowledge was worth something.

In 1983 I was a rookie cop on my way home from work in what would be one of the worst blizzards of the century. I made it through 20 miles and got within a mile of my house but couldn't get up this hill. There was a guy in a wrecker pulling people up the hill for $5.00, I had two dollars in my pocket. He saw me struggling and saw I was in uniform, he pulled me up for free and refused to take my 2 bucks, a great gesture. I got his tag number, found out his address and sent him $10.00. good karma for both of us.
