I remember watching a show on Velocity that explained how early hotrodders running at Bonneville used surplus WWII airplane fuel tanks and converted them into cars. Maybe this one is a leftover project? Might be some history there.

I don't know what that is or was but not a belly tank. It looks more like a part of a fuselage of a jet fighter. It has a good shape. Several years ago my buddy and I spurred by our enthusiasm and unlimited because our naiveté started gathering pieces for a Bonneville car. The idea began with a 413 ci Dodge flathead six. Our next major part was the nosecone for and Honest John missile, our first nuclear missile. Further checking of the rule book showed that the engine was too big for the vintage engine classes which would have put us in a B lakester class where the record was nearly 300 mph. Tires alone for that class would be several thousand dollars. It's on hold. ::)

The last picture is my buddy at the starting line at Bonneville in belly tanker that belongs to our friends. It runs an injected 302 GMC.
