Title: Good, bad, and the ugly
Post by: sammons on March 06, 2021, 11:40:42 PM
Beautiful sunny morning here. Running late, got up at 7am. Made coffee, shower etc. Went into garage for my 4th cup of coffee and a smoke 8:30, 57°.  Texting back and forth with a buddy getting ready to feed my cat, heard a light thump on screen door.

Thought she was getting impatient for breakfast, then thought i heard a muffled growl, then a yeowl. Got up opened door to see two dogs (pitull mix) one had her slinging around like a rag doll. Ran out tried to get it to drop her...finally did after i yelled and kicked at it. Then it turned growling at me while the other circled behind me🤯 I grabbed cat and got back into garage quick, they had broken her back, tail and leg in seconds. She was broke in the center and couldn"t move her rear legs and settled down to gasping for air like a fish out of water. I had to put her down within 10mins of the attack🥺

Critters are something. One of her friends may have wittnesed it or escaped previous. She came back to touch my cat after i put her down  and watched me bury her. Three of her friends visited. Now mind you none ever approched me before. All 3 meowed till i came out side, approched me...then rubbed on my my legs and left.

I've had trouble with this pair of dogs in the past. The tried taking my old Golden Duke 4 yrs ago when i took him out to pee (on a leash harness to help him stand up). Chased them off several times since, and seen them attack a small dog down the street a few years back. Of course no pics to prove anything. If I report, nothing will come of it. If i find owners, and threaten will only end in me going to jail. But.....if they disapear......who knows. 😡

That's terrible, if you don't have a lease law you need one.  There are other options that I won't note here.

Ed we have a leash law, but they only pic up and charge if they see them out. Talked to several people last night and may have an area they are coming from (about 3-4 bocks away).

Thanks Tom. I'm more of a dog person myself, but like to have a cat around to keep field mice down. She was born under my shed almost 4yrs ago and never strayed more than 60 feet from my back door.

My dogs are loose but there isn't another house for 3 miles or so. They don't go that far. They stick pretty close most of the time. I'm impressed that you were able to get one to drop the cat. You remind me of the video of the guy that rescued his dog from the alligator. Early on I had to get a chicken out of my pit/border collie's mouth and we both got beat up. Those dogs need to be rounded up before they get into a yard with a little kid in it. I lost a cat to coyotes several years ago. The one we have now won't go outside. She was found alone in an alley in Reno when she was too young to be alone and has liked being comfortable ever since. Sorry you and the cat had to go through that.

Well called City Hall this morn when they opened to give a heads up/complaint. They sent City Marshall over to get statement. I asked if anybody had complained on the pair...no. But...he said they usually just post to FB or Twitter to bitch and never file at City🥴 He said with my statement, it's probably not the first kill. I made it clear that I didn't witness dog #2 attacking cat, just standing next to the aggressor #1.

A friend from City Council called, they have a meeting tonight and if the Marshall wasn't there he would bring up the matter as a saftey concern for other animals and kids. Guess we will see what becomes of it. At least I did my part and it's on record.

I'm sorry about your cat Sammons. I know it might seem useless but you have to at least start by reporting it. Whatever happens from there..................
