Lol   Learned that back in '75 when I started working at the Mobil service station.  We had a new family move to town, had a 69-70 Impala. Someone had over tightend the Fram filter, we had to use the channel locks and ripped the can apart. Had the use chissel on base to get it spinning off. Man that was cheesy material in there. About three weeks later our Michelin rep came to adjust tires, had us change oil on his ford pickup, Fram filter. We cut it apart, same cheesy material.

Shocked us, we had always seen the Fram decals on Drag cars and Amt models. Thought they were quality, not so! We used Purolator until 1978 then switched to Wix. In the 90s our local parts house that carried Wix filters put out a display with filters cut open, couldn't believe Fram hadn't changed.

Excellent video.  I've heard Wix makes the best filter.  I have an AC PF454 on my 33.  I'll have to cut a used one apart to see what's inside.

When I worked at Car Quest, starting in 2000, we had one of those displays. I started using Wix almost exclusively. The standard Car Quest and Napa filters are Wix. Racers may have used Fram because they got the filters free and a sponsor. educed restriction could be a good thing. Race engines are clean to start with and get frequent oil changes. Anything in their oil is going to be new and will have done it's damage before it gets to the filter. I have read recently that starting wit a clean engine using modern oil and frequent changes a filter is not even necessary. I'm not going there but it could be true. A good air filter and a good fuel filter are still important.   ;D
