Self Adhesive Weather Stripping
« on: May 22, 2021, 12:31:47 PM »
Does anyone know if they make self adhesive weather stripping for a 1953 Chevy 3100 or a good replacement for the stock?  The black 3M stuff is so messy.

The only bright side to that Job I know is that 3M also makes some great adhesive remover.

Have ya tried Steele rubber.  I think they have most of everything,  even RV stuff.

Also try cleaning off the adhesive and using Friction tape on the pinch weld.  Should give enough grip to stay on.
If it's the pinch kind im thinking of .

I feel your pain Munch! I don't see any self adhesive weather stripping, but there  are some great videos with tips on how to make using the 3M glue less of a challenge and a mess.
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

Munch, Soft Seal makes self adhisive door weather strips. Word of caution on those, a fellow here used that (I don't know what brand he used)  but it ended up coming loose in a few areas after a couple weeks. Ended up glueing those spots.

When using weather strip glue, use painters tape just inside the outline of where the rubber goes. Then glue door side, stick weather strip into place. Any squeeze out or drips will be on tape.
