Hey guys any opinions or experience with specialty -or- street rod insurance?
-
I've got a buddy who lives in Indiana and he just purchased insurance from a Insurance company in Hodgenville ,Ky named Larue Classic Car Insurance saved him half and received more coverage. He's very happy with his deal.
:)

I have Grundy. I haven't had any claims yet but they have been easy to work with. Cost is very reasonable.
-
Do any of you know if they require you to insure your personal vehicles with them also?
-
Not with Grundy, only have my 33 through them.
-
I'm with J.C. Taylor...they had the best price when I started classic car insurance years ago.
-
I have had American Collectors for about 15 years. Never had a claim, but they are local (20 miles from my house). I had Taylor before also local (about 20 miles). Never had a claim with them either. Not sure why I switched but it was probably $$

I have Grundy on my 30 and I just talked with them to see if my windshield replacement was covered. The lady first told me at $250 max, but then corrected herself and said at 100%. We will see when I send them the bill. :)

I've had Conden and Skelly for about 20 yrs. now. Never had a claim, so I don't know how they are yet. It was much cheaper than just the liability per car I used to have through normal ins. I am only allowed 2,500 miles per year per car, but when I would take the 57 to Cali for vacation I would call and get approval for the extended mileage(5000) to go to a "car show" and was always approved at no additional charge.
I got a multi car, good credit discounts and they only charge the 1st car for liability, and a $500 deductable. They don't require you ne insured with them on your dailys, but they do require you to show prof of a daily driver policy (they don't want you daily driving your collecter car).

One of my concerns which I keep forgetting to ask about is if I'm covered in Canada with JC Taylor. If you get in an accident up there and can't prove you are covered...your car is detained until you show proof of coverage.
I try to stay out of the Quebec Province anyway , my son's unattended truck got hit by a Quebecer a couple years back, the Quebec cops basically told my son to go to hell when he asked for an accident report and wouldn't release the other drivers ID or insurance info. He finally had to repair the vehicle on his own.
If you are a cop visiting PQ...don't expect any breaks.

I think its the Law up there, that you guys have to have insurance to drive.
Not down here, so I'm just extra carefully.
How many here caught the large build thread on the Hamb, where the guy built a cool glass 32 Ford, it got stolen, then the insurance company screwed him?
It was due to him registering a glass car as a 32 Ford.

Here in New Hampshire you are not required to have insurance. If you get in an accident and it's your fault you loose your license until you pay your debt. But most times the ones at fault get away with it.

I checked with condon skelly and the prices were really good until they found out my agent classified my car as an antique. then the prices doubled for a street rod. youch

I have my 38 insured thru my home owners which is Farm Bureau and I have it insured for an agreed amount, I do have a mileage restriction but I never exceed it thru the year. I am very happy with my premium. :)

Oh man, I never thought about that Ghost. I've always had the Antique policies with them, and they were really low priced. My '58 and '70 R/T only cost me like $370 bucks last year. I'll have to look into that on the street rod deal with the Coupe. Now that scares me! ;D
-
I decided to go with Grundy. A $30.000 agreed on value and it's under $200 a year. I had to do it.

If they aren't modified I guess you are ok, but once the agent saw my pictures she realized that my Buick wasn't a stock antique. I am kinda glad she caught it because after an accident, or theft is not the time to find out I had the wrong coverage.

That doesn't sound bad at all

Well, i'll be looking into Grundy. Yes, you don't need to find out later that you are not covered by misclassification! I've seen alot of that with the Ins co's in the body shop biz. I'm going to get just a regular tag, and thought about just liability, but at that price might as well be covered. Liability only on my '98 Dodge p.u. is $119 every 6mo.

My buddy has (3) 30's Chevys insured with Grundy and was paying about $625 annually, this year they increased the premium to over $850. They told him that they automatically increase the cars value by 3 or 4% each year even if you don't ask ???
Well anyway he's dropping Grundy in March.
-
Is it not funny every time you go to a body shop for allmost any reason the first thing they ask is do you have insurance.WHY____Do you want to charge me more if i have insurance less if i pay cash Whats with this AH
-
Vette, probably because different Ins co's opperate different ways. Some allow use of O.E.M. parts, some don't. Some not so Stand up shops will try to screw over the Ins co, some customers try to screw the Ins co by trying to claim old damage in an uneffected area.
Me, I never cared if you had insurance or not, the estimate was the same price either way. I preffered not dealing with most Ins co's. They usually take my bid, refigure minus many opperation costs/ add aftermarket parts and tell me this is what I will get paid. I tell them to go jump in a lake.

Edit: Vette59
Looks like your vinyl cap on the ends have been cut off? I ran down to the shop to look at the '58. Every dash pad I have seen for 59-62 has had the vinyl wrapped around the end to fit all models. It looks like 58 through early 59 the end cap was under the vinyl. On late 59 through 62 it seems they have a different end cap that gets painted and goes over the vinyl. So it appears that they pre trimed the end of your vinyl for late 59-62.
I'am waiting for an old friend of mine to get up and around, and check about his 62 for confermation as to cap type. I have never paid much attention to them before. You can use a heat gun/hair dryer on low to work out any wrinkles that are caused by sitting in a box to long. It would also help wrap the end smooth, just use caution and don't over heat!
Pics of my 58 then 58-59 end caps and 59-62 end caps.
