Glass Installation
« on: July 12, 2016, 07:36:34 PM »
Ok guys I painted all my window opening's and have installed my rear and both my side glass and went to the garage tonight to install my windshield finding that I need the rubber to hold it in I guess. My plan was to use urethane and stick it into the opening. How did you install yours? Did you order an oversized piece of glass?

I have always used urethane for the windshields. THe glass shouldn't need to be oversized, you want the glass to surrounded by the urethane for the most part. It will fill any slight voids. Run tape around the windshield frame to protects it from the urethane sticking to it.
Is this for the 32 and does the windshield still crank open?

I held all of my windows in with butyl tape and then finished off the outside using silicone caulk, taping off the body and windshield so I got a crisp, defined line. Here's a couple examples.
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

Yes it is for my 32, I ordered a standard size glass set for it. Installing the side glasses was no problem everything went as planned. Different story on the windshield. I do not have any of the windshield frame work and no my windshield does not drank open anymore. My plan was to urethane it to the body on the inside of the car but without the tracks my glass is to short and to narrow. I would like to see how other people did it using standard size glass if it's possible. If not I guess I will have to purchase a oversize windshield and try and sale this one. A small set back :(

My windshield didn't open on my 32.  I made a pattern of the opening and aded 1'4 inch all around and used the black windshield caulk on the inside of the cab area, and installed it from the inside.
