My buddy is wiring up his car and is using this 3 wire alternator, the ground and battery power is self explanatory. It has (2) field connectors, the one on the left has a ceramic insulator.
My question is which terminal gets the exciter wire and how is the other wire wired?
Does the MOPAR alternator have a built in diode for the exciter wire or should I solder one in?

Maybe this will help.

Ghost beat me to it. Late 60's up till ?

Thanks guys...looking at the diagrams this alternator doesn't have an internal regulator because it has (2) field terminals?
-
Ed, I just looked up my '98 Dodge p.u. and it said the regulator is external, located in the PCM. I don't know any thing about these newer ones.

I think you are right and my buddy needs an external regulator...found this article about converting the (2) field wire unit into a (1) field wire car.

There was something on there about a stand alone quick set up for a Jeep (same) using an old 2plug regulator.

Found an old post on the HAMB where a guy was trying to wire up a MOPAR alternator, gave up and installed a GM one wire ;D
