I wish every kid could have the freedom and safety I enjoyed as a kid. It is a different world for them and they did not choose it. All children should be able to be children for as long as they can.  :) You are a good man Sammons!

Sixball thats why i felt bad about being gruff with him. I remember growing up we cruised the creek from one end of town to the other goofing off. We are real fortunate here in this tiny town, not much has changed. Kids just don't invent things to entertain themselves anymore, just play video games and cell phones.
With exception to not having the city dump to sort thru treasures😁 ,and the drive-in and pool hall gone and the city whistel not working anymore (4 times a day, 7am- noon-1pm- 6pm)
I remember my brother and family came back from Calf one summer (15yrs ago). My nephew was 10 and wanted dad to take him and his little sister to the park on the other side of town. Brother said well go, you know where its at. He then looked at me and asked if Bucklin was still the same, i said yep. Hold your sisters hand crossing the street. His wife just about flipped out, he said nobody will bother them....they'll be just fine.😁

Kids these day's need to be told no,  but it sounds like you made some friends. Maybe they can earn some money down the road helping out.

Just got back last night from our week long vaca.
Took a trip down to Big Water.  6.5 hr drive then jumped on a 30 mile long dirt road to Alstrom point camp to camp on a cliff overlooking lake Powell.
Stayed 2 nights there and explored Crosby canyon down to Warm creek bay.
The water was a good mile from the island googlemaps shows. Got down to the beach and had the entire channel to ourselves.
3rd day we moved towards civilization and went to Lone Rock Beach but it was very sandy and decided to head for cooler temperatures in Grand canyon north.  Spent the first night near the entrance and waited for opening day the next morning.
6:30 am  and the gates opened to about 30 vehicles in line,  the drag race was on.  Except us RV's wich got passed pretty quickly.
Found road 611 which I was told had good views of eastern Grand canyon.  About 5 miles in we found a decent spot.  Of course other spots down had better views but we had a good wind break.
Yesterday we woke up to snow and decided to head home.
Sideways pics might need some help. 😉

The drive outta Page was hot.  Steep grade and headwinds made it hell. Once over the top we had a magnificent view of AZ,s red desert but when the road turned west along the Vermillion cliffs we slowed to 45 mph mostly till the canyon.
I gotta give my jeep a huge props.  It suffered long tows,  high rpm's and conqured a massive sand hillclimb that popped the front end airborne at the top and it got us home.  Couldn't ask for a better jeep.
Pics of grand canyon.
1.) Our camp
2.) It's view
3.) Another spots view
4.) Grand canyon

Great pcs Rattiac....just a little sideways ;D. Sounds like you hade a real nice vacation.
Sammons, you live in a real nice part of the country. I enjoy living in the city, and my neighborhood is as safe as you get in Philly. But you have to watch, hood rats from the not so good neighborhoods travel up our way. You have to be careful, and that's a shame.

Nice pictures Rattiac! Every picture I too of the Grand Canyon a few years ago look like the train ride in Disneyland. It is so big my pictures don't look real.

Nice pics Rattiac. Sounds like you had a good vacation, and seen some nice country. I haven't been back to the Grand Canyon since late the 90s.

Sixball it's really hard to take a picture of the vastness and color hues that you see with your eyeballs in person.

The most unreal pictures I've ever taken were of a Desert Big Horn ram that hung out here for a while. They look like a bad taxidermy job placed around the yard.

Pretty! I can not walk that close to the edge anymore. I'm glad you are out there enjoying all of this. Those sunrises should not be wasted.

Rattiac, that really is beautiful, you're a lucky dude. I don't think I could get that close to the edge either, no way. Congratulations 62131, I've been retired for almost 5 months and I seem to have less free time now than when I was working. Enjoy, it's great!
