Hello to everyone . I am a new member from S.Jersey. I traded a race car for a sort of done 32 Chevy 5 window coupe . So far I have framed out the interior and skinned it with sheet metal .In the middle of a 3" chop right now , the rear and side post line up perfect , still trying to figure the relief cuts needed for the front pillars as I don't want to cut the roof in half to align them . Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

Welcome!

Sounds like a interesting project.

More pictures!

Some guys on here are good at chopping and I am sure they will chime in.

Welcome. Your a pillars don't look to far off so wherever you decide to put the relief cut it shouldn't be to large of a seperation. I would force the pillars into position before cutting the top. I can't wait to see more of your 32...John

Dugeman

Welcome to the forum...found one video of a 32 chop ....you'll need to pull the front pillars back.  The video doesn't explain much...but it doesn't look like you need to pull the pillars too much?  The guys mentions pulling the pillars back...but the roof looks cut anyway?

When I chopped my 33 Chevy 5 window coupe I just split the roof and welded in the piece  (3/4") to make up the gap, I suspect the 32 gap would be a lot smaller if you went that route.

Welcome to the show Dugeman.  I'm contemplating butchering my '35 sedan in a similar fashion.  I have a good book on the subject and they pretty much suggest splitting the roof and adding a filler piece.  Don't forget that if you tip the pillars back that you need to do the doors as well.

Good point...get the roof done first..then cut the doors, firm up body lines...then fit the doors to the new opening. Keep the metal slices you removed they make perfect filler pieces.

Dugeman,
Welcome aboard, I'm considering taking 2-2.5" out of my roof when I get started on my body. I sure would like to see your progress as you get it completed.

Read your advice and made some relief cuts on the windshield posts . Body lines on posts seem to line up well. Thanks for you advice . I have pictures for most of the reinforcement tubing for the interior. And sheet metal for the interior if anyone is looking for ideas . Great site !!!!!!
