Rear deck lid shocks 33 Chevy coupe
« on: March 05, 2014, 10:15:56 AM »
Recently parted out a 1998 Chevy Blazer and removed the rear window glass shocks with all mounting brackets for future use.

Spent about an hour yesterday mounting them on my 33 Chevy coupe.  Used the stock 33 upper trunk lid mounts and made brackets at the bottom.  Attached the lower brackets to the rain gutter...really happy with the looks and how well they function.

Ed,

That looks really nice!  I was going to convert my 34 from a rumble seat to a trunk.  I bought hinges from Rocky Valley and was going to fab up some support rods, but I like your idea much better!  Is there anyway you can take some close up pictures of the brackets you made?  Thanks for sharing.

Justin

At the top I used nylon bushing to offset the shock, at the bottom used a piece of .0125 steel 2X2.5 and button welded the Blazer brackets to it.  Used  3/16ā€¯ pop rivets to secure them to the gutter (might weld them).

Drilled out the spot welded lower brackets from the Blazer..which provided the button weld holes.

Ed,

Thanks for the pictures.  It seems easy enough.  Thanks again.

Slick idea Ed.  It's great when you can use readily available parts.
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!
