Big horizonal Snow/Worthington
« on: July 20, 2022, 10:01:07 AM »
Thought maybe some might like. Over at the Northern Natural Gas booster station (Mullinville Ks, 13 miles east of me) They ran these, oppearations started in the 1930s, and ran 24/7 other than maintenance and repair. They had a huge machine shop to repair in house. I think they have only been off line a few years as they have been automating and installing Jet engine compressors. They had close to 30 of these. In the 50s they installed the first 2 jet compressors.

Early this summer they started removing them, dissasebling buildings to do so. I accidently deleted a few pics on my phone😡 with pics of those huge flywheels off and stacked up. There were 2 big buildings housing 11 in one and 15 in the other.

Some cool stuff there.  I enjoy the historical experience.  Man earlier generations built great things. 😎

Those big fellas throw out quite a bit of torque, 31,500 at the 100rpm. I think it's shy of what a steam locomotive puts out, but i suppose that was the next step in progress? Shame most of these were still working and probably end up scrap iron on it's way to China🥴

I like all the old stuff, from buildings bridges, trains etc. Thinking the other day about where all the small town printing presses went. Almost every small town had a news paper or two with press. Probably got scrapped too.🥴

I looked up the specs below.

They have to destroy the old stuff before they can force the new stuff on us. SOCAL had a fully functional electric train system from the 30s until Standard oil bought it and dumped a lot of it in the Pacific to promote automobile travel. Now they are moving back to trains & electric cars. It's all about the "BUCK". Just ask Paul Pelosi. he's in the chips. ::)
