Title: Some Information about Water-Based Car Paint
Post by: themoose on February 12, 2013, 08:57:27 PM
With EPA tightening the regulations on solvent based auto paints it's only a matter of time before the guy who does his own paint work at home is affected the the new requirements. As it is now water based paints are being used mostly for base coat applications but as the technology improves the time will come when both primer and clear coat will also be water-based. The question is will the hobbyist be able to use these new products without having to spend a fortune on equipment and how steep will the learning curve be. A lot of these questions are still not fully answered but on the surface it appears that the new paint will be somewhat user friendly but also will require some adjustments to your painting techniques. Here is a short article that was published in Car Craft awhile ago that touches on some of the basics. You may never use the the stuff but it always good to know what new technologies are coming down the road and how they might influence  our hobby.
