That would be good to know Ed, as I don't think they allow it in SC.  The ones I have found inline that will give estimates are extremely high.  Like $600 for a grille shell in good shape.  Maybe I just wasn't prepared for what chroming cost.

They still chrome up in Canada - the restrictions by New York politicians have basically outlawed it in NY.

If it's fun..it's illegal in NY!

I live about 2 miles from Vermont and drive over there to get "peanut stick doughnuts"....which are also illegal in NY because someone in NY may have peanut allergies.

We have a company that rechromes bumpers i do not know where they do it  but they come pick them up for body shops and such and bring them back all fixed up and shinny. I also have a gppd friend that sent a lot of his parts out to get chromed for his 49 merc led sled and he sends all his pieces over to Northern Pennsulvanie  vette59jdwl

Is my example of $600 for a grill shell in good shape about right?  If so, I couldn't afford to much Bling...

I will have to start to look into this.  I've read a few good reviews for D&D Chrome Plating in Rhode Island.  I have not used them but may check them out.  Here is their contact info.

Ed

I've used these guys for years and never had a problem. I has a regulator cover done for the Harley last and it cost around 70.00 which in this day and age isn't too bad. When I was there dropping off the part I saw a number of bumpers laying around with tags on them so I would guess they still do them. They did all of the chrome work on the 32. There located in West Hartford which is about 30 miles from me so I drive rather than ship to them. Maybe you can give them a call

When I was in high school there was an old guy over the hill in Pittsburg California who had a chrome shop in his back yard. I saved my sign painting and dish washing money for months and had every metal piece in my '38 Ford Coupe chromed. The dash, window frames, shifter, pedals, steering column, handles, seat hinges..........It cost $100. I wonder if that car still exists and if the Chrome is still in it. I later took it to TJ for a $60 black tuck and roll job. My how things have changed.  :)

I think I'm going to give New England Chrome a call.  I'd like to get my grill and headlight bars done.  It's about 2 hours away from me so I'm thinking about dropping it off and picking it up.  Moose if you had good luck with them I'll give them a try.

Tom,I've been using them for more years than I can remember. Last time was about 2 years ago with a part for the Harley and it turned out show quality as usual. The prices have soared over the years thanks to EPA but that's a whole other story.

Tom,

Do you think you could get an estimate on a 1930 grille shell?

Tom,

Do you think you could get an estimate on a 1930 grille shell?

I'll ask.  If they can't give it to me I'll let you know what mine cost.  I probably won't get it there until mid December.

I finally got my parts back from chrome this week.  It all started when I brought my grill shell, center spear and head light bars to a local shop just south of Boston back mid February.  They had my parts for two weeks when I got a call that he could do the parts.  To make a long story short, they're a plating shop not a restoration shop.  I drove back down there and picked up my parts.  I decided to send them to Paul's Chrome just north of Pittsburgh Pa.  The parts came out great!  Now I need to get everything back together.  After last driving my car on Christmas day, I didn't expect it to be this late in the year before I drove it again.
