building 28, have straight axle from 40s/50s chevy drum to drum but king pin bores are too worn to use... looking for a straight axle, apparently speedway doesnt make a chevy I-beam axle for chevy sprindles. where can i get an axle for a dang chevy??? hopefully someone has a suggestion ... would love to hear all. thank you rusty bowtie.

my son/n/law has just the axle for a 32 chevy. He is advertizing it for $50.00 Only draw back it's in Colorado.

The straight axle link below might be able to hook you up?
-
28 chevy guy Your axle i believe is .734 in the king pin diameter the 1941 to 55 chevy pickup the kingpin boss is .866 diameter you might be able to drill out your king pin bos and use these king pins I would talk to a spring shop and ask questions other than that you may have to swap out all that you have for a larger axle or one of equivelant values like ED said check out the dropped axle section below lots of information there i should know vette59jdwl

thanks for all the replys. the 50s axle i have is .866, already have new kingpins , lots of brake parts from chev40's, upgraded bearing kits, spindles seem alright but I know they are readily available if not. ,already called all around found one guy but he only bores big truck axles nowadays and wont touch it.
i'll check out the link below as well....

hm axle place said 6-8 weeks out and need to ship core... :(

OK 28 chevyguy seeing you are already out to .866 diameter king pins .Then you already have the large bosses and should be able to either have them honed out or drilled out to .921 which is the large kingpin for the 1947 to 1954 GMC 3/4 ton truck or one ton truck. Make sure you are not talking with some dingy counter person or clerck. Make sure you are talking to the MAN . If they tell you NO, then go to a machine shop that is reputable. vette59jdwl. This is not rocket science

truck and car axles are the same , A truck axle actually has a 3 inch drop compared to a car axle
If you go on sids dropped axle site you will find all the info you need as far as king pin sizes
and what year of axles will work best. I am using a 53 truck axle in my 33 3 window with an aftermarket disk set up
Other than that axle bolts right in and a 3 inch drop to boot !!!
Too bad you weren't closer as I have a few axles, have one set up with corvette spindles rotors and calipers
good luck joe mac

ok so found a machine shop to bore it to .921 , fit and ream ... the whole 9.
going to be looking for new spindles and new king pin / bushing set.
-
thanks for all the help fellas
-
Well look at it this way , you can trade in or put your new ones on here for what you paid for them, at least you should come close to what you paid for them and you did not have to change your complete front end, glad you got that all sorted out . Now you have a much stouter front end and all you changed was king pin size. good hunting vette59jdwl

I don't see why you don't get the spindles drilled or reamed along with the king pins
vette59jdw

I just checked with sid's site, and i think it was 120 bucks for everything considering where you were headed with this project. it was going to cost a dang site more the way you were headed. glad to be of some help and enjoy your ride vette59jdwl
