Title: Easy or Hard?
Post by: themoose on September 04, 2013, 08:44:57 PM
How do you guys drive your hot rod. Back in the day I have to admit that I used to beat on my cars pretty badly but these days I just kinda sit back, listen to the exhaust rumble and enjoy the ride. A couple of my friends still  love to do an occasional smokin burn out and power shift through the gears. They accuse me of being over the hill but I like to think its just the natural expansion of wisdom that only comes with time. I no longer enjoy laying under the car to replace the ring and pinion that I just set up a few weeks ago or bolting on a different set of headers just to gain a couple of extra horses  .....Now that I think of it maybe I am over the hill!

No it is called wisdom, I did the same thing when I was younger, now I like to cruise and take my time and enjoy the ride and whom I riding with.

I'm with you Moose, I used to enjoy hearing the tires squeal in all four gears.  I haven't driven my 33 yet but I don't plan to beat on it.  I'll be happy just to cruise down the road without breaking any parts.  Just think how much I'll save on speeding tickets :)

When I had my 32 chevy coupe I rode it pretty hard, In road cources and local drags, but I build it for that purpose AND some good cruising. Awhile back I bought a 62 chevy 2 door sedan from a friend that if you hit a bump a little hard some of the rusty body would fall off. I mean this car was real light for all the lost sheet metal.
What it did have was a warmed over 327 with a m 22 4 speed along with 411 posi It ran real hard. I took it for a ride over to a guys home to show him the car,  and he urged me to try a burn out. I rode the clutch just enough and then let er rip. The damn thing fried the tires all the way through first into a full power shift into second with just a little 1 foot clear spot on the pavement where the shift happened other than that the rubber kept burning. I was a local truck driver and needed my licence so I sold the car in no short order. I gotta tell you it was a blast to drive like that again, but it would have gotten me into trouble I am sure ..HEHE

I do remember being a gear head back in high school and my cousin was dating the captain of the football team of the crosstown high school.  He thought he was hot sh*t until he came over the house for a cookout and he was talked into going for a ride in my 70 Nova.  The best way to explain the outcome is he looked like the salesman in the Jeff Gordon Pepsi commercial!  He never talked down to me after that.  The look on his face when I pulled second gear and it went sideways was priceless!

Now Tom, you know stories like that make me want to go out and see what its like to do a couple of good old hole shot again. If something brakes I'm gonna have to hold you responsible  :-*

Moose,
I just want t know has the front wheel of that Harley always kept in contact with the pavement?  All of my Kawasakis like to "float" the front wheel in the air.
