Gonna adjust my valves looking for sure fire way to get it done..wanna do it while engine is running.....this is the way I remember. 1 back nut off until ticking is heard 2 tighten nut until ticking goes away 3 wait.. then 1/4 turn ..wait 10 secs. 1/4 turn more. ..done ...Any one have any input??

If you have solid oil pressure the oil will be shooting all over the place running while running. A trick was to cut a set valve covers in half length-wise so the oil spray would hit the cover while you had a socket on the nut. They also had clips that snapped on the rocker arm to block the oil hole.

Just read the first post before the comments start! I've done it that way on hundreds of small blocks and actually turn them at least 1/2 turn. Never used poly lock.

Yes I have a valve cover that is cut down to be able to get to the nut...along with the clips that you clip on....

I had a valve cover with a slot cut in it. I'd do one bank at a time.

As long as all your valve train is good that is as good a way as any. If it's worked for you in the past stay with it. More input = more confusion. :)

Side note on this project...went to Orielys Auto Parts to get gaskets ...Fel Pro Cork valve cover $22.99 and Exhaust Manifold Gaskets one piece copper cladded ? $52.00.. Needless to say didn't buy them instead turned to Rock Auto.... 2 sets of Exhaust gaskets for under $24.00 with shipping.. Going to place an order for some consumables that I'll need later.......what in the world is going in with these prices

I have worked at CarQuest, Kragen, & O'Reilly. Times are tough for ALL brick & mortar businesses. Beside property taxes, business licenses increases they face huge increases in liability insurance, workers who don't show up, workers who don't or can't work when they do show up, massive losses to shoplifting + smash & grab. They also face price increases, supply chain problems and parts shortages. My son is a commercial counterman at an O'Reilly in Reno and I hear about it all the time. Times are tough and right now the online places seem to have the best of it until you get the wrong or a bad part and begin the return phase of inline buying. Once the local choice is gone I doubt it the prices will stay the same. We live in a tough time for business. I went to 4 different businesses today trying to find some 16 mm bolts and finally ordered them online when I got home.

This is the way I have always adjusted valves, however, I also used the clips with and a valve cover with a slot cut in it. Did it once without and made an incredible mess.
