Exclusive First Look! 340-HP 3.6-Liter Four-Cylinder LS-Headed Crate Engine

One of the hits of the 2022 PRI show was this oddball crate engine hiding in the corner of the Blueprint Engines booth.

Pretty cool little engine!
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

There is a video talking about it.  Alot of comments saying it's fake,  it's gonna vibrate like crazy,  convert it to odd fire and such.
Definitely need to see it running and an official dyno run.  Kinda hard to believe some of the Sema hype.

The bigger four cylinder engines get the more vibration becomes an issue. Some have tried to deal with it by adding counterbalance shafts. This is an inherent vibration and not a harmonic thing. This is why the first Chevy sixes mad so much a big deal other smoothness in their advertising. That said Chevy has a four cylinder that they won't even say is a four but it looks pretty healthy to me.

I heard that the guys (locally) with the 4 cyl Silverados are impressed with the power of the engine.

I've been reading some reviews and it is a mixed message. They don't get much better milage, they don't cost much less especially if you consider resale. They do make pretty good power certainly as much as the v8s we loved several years ago. It is hard to tell. 9,000 lbs towing limit, not bad. In 2022 430 ft lbs torque, impressive. But only 18 mpg combined in a 4x4. I'd like to drive one. My old '07 with the 5.3 is a pretty good truck but it has over 200,000 miles. I don't tow often and I don't haul many heavy loads. All new & used truck are too expansive now anyway.

I watched a video clip about this engine. It doesn't seem to have a balance shaft, which I feel would limit the revs to some four grand or less. Maybe it's a troll thing?

No doubt there's a good amount of power from that 2.7 liter four cylinder Silverado, but no, that's wrong on so many levels. My personal opinion.

I grew up with nothing but four cylinders around, and they don't sound good, and they don't have the smooth feel of a six or
eight cylinder engine. And frankly, in a big truck, I think there's not much to gain in the fuel economy department by making the engine that small, not enough to matter.
Anyway, it's faschinating how much  power per cubic inch you can get out of a small engine. Imagine that same specific
output on a Cadillac 500...
