Title: MG fenders on a Chevy
Post by: EDNY on November 16, 2014, 08:44:32 PM
Picked up a set of mint MG-TF (not TD) fenders locally, wanted to see the potential. The fenders came with buckets and those chrome metal screens that cover the bulbs.  If I don't keep them...shouldn't be much trouble moving them.

The front picture indicates that the fenders need to be mounted inboard toward the radiator...they would require modification all around.

Even if I wind up using fiberglass 33 fenders....still like the idea of setting the headlight buckets into the fenders, but can always run without fenders for a long time.  Even stock fenders will require mods since I stretched the hood 5", raked the body in the front, moved the wheelbase an inch or so forward etc.

Really doesn't look that bad, as you said there would have to be some modifications to to make them work.

Ed, I like it, and from what shows in the pictures I don't think it will take you too much to move those fenders in.

The current front wheels don't have any real backspace...so I would just need to use a wheel with about 3-4" backspace to center up the tires..probably about the 4th time I changed the wheels ;D  Got a really good deal on the fenders and almost hate to cut them up.

The fender color doesn't help either...

Kind of gives the car that WW2 German Benz look. Definitely neat.

I think that looks good and could be made to work with a little effort.  And if the headlights were leaned back a little it would really look like a mid thirtys willys.

Ed  going back and looking at the pictures again could you not roll some sheet metal to fill in the space between the hood and fenders?

I have a metal brake, shear, roller, shrinker, stretcher, bead roller etc but no excuses :P  Probably will sit on the project for a month anyway but have ideas cooking in my head like you mentioned.

The problem is not having too many tools, it's only having two hands!!

Let's not forget about the floor space that they take up ???

Ed...I twisted your fenders up a bit so you could get a better idea of how it might look...

That's better! Good job moose, that puts it in perspective.

This is the Benz that it reminds me of. 1938 Mercedes-Benz Stadt Coupe. I couldn't finda pic of the 3-W of the same year as the town car, but they were like this with the fenders like the town car.

I'm not really fond of that look. I think it is an interesting idea and I agree it does have a Willys  feel but I like the lights separate. Just me. :)

I like the look but my personal choice would be to have the inner section of the fender, that Moose curved down, I would have the fender go straight across to the side of the hood. I'm just sayin' :)

Do you mean more like this..Can't do too much without getting into modifying the headlight area.

I think you should leave the detail of the headlight buckets alone and just fill in the area between the fenders and hood area with a flat panel. It has to much of a roll in the fenders.

Yes, Moose, more like that......but I guess it really matters what Ed likes ::)

Just something I'm kicking around anyways...the fenders look nice from the side...the front needs something....the headlights would probably be closer the radiator....the front would need a bit more tweaking....a chin panel could be worked in...small billet brake grills, turn signals....may just run without fenders for a while.

Ed...I can't stop playing with these darn fenders. Here's a version with the headlights moved in toward the radiator a chin panel and some signal lights..Your ides is starting to grow on me.

Going to list them in our classified section. Kinda hate to cut them up. I see one fender on eBay for $1000 and these look a lot better. Won't be working on the car until Spring anyway.

See if the eBay fender sell and you will have a better idea of what yours are worth. There can not be a lot of those around especially in that condition. They will make some MG guy very happy. Better that he has them than to run into him at a car show after you cut them up and have him chase you around the grounds with a hockey stick.  ;D
