🥶 Blizzrd fun
« on: January 11, 2024, 04:47:16 PM »
Monday night got smacked with snow/high wind blizzard. Not much out of the norm for winter here. Only 7", but wind of 36mph sustained, 50-70mph gusts had all roads in SW Kansas closed. Dumb people stranded all over. All kinds of power outages. I got lucky, my power kept blinking but stayed on. East side of town was out for 4-5 hrs, west of me across the road was out 24hrs.

I dummied up when i took the dog out before bed. Had to push the storm door thru the 2' drift to get 14" of squeeze thru. I don't know why i shut it, it couldn't swing out in the wind. Just had my flannel on for dogs quick last pee. Got back to door.... damn button on the handle was froze solid. I beat on it with my frozen fist for 5 mins, i don't have my phone, my keys to the other doors and pick up keys are all in the house. Didn't think that thru very well🙄 finally got hands warm enough to beat on handle again, it finally popped in and back in i got!  Warming my hands under shirt, i'm wondering if my neighbors are even home or if they left there garage walk in open. Won't make that mistake again😁 I hope!

Tuesday afternoon the township motor grader (big John Deere) all chained up w/V snow plow tried getting down my buddy Tom's road. Didn't get far, he went back and got the high loader. 20 mins in he made it 40 feet.
Stopped in the new Dollar General west of me today, they were among the 24hr off. They lost $120k worth of cooler/freezer food. I told her a back up generator would have been a whole lot cheaper. She said... but the Gov't emergency disaster fund would pay for the loss🙄 No wonder the Gov't spends so much of our tax money.

Now if the electricity stays on this weekend, more snow and wind predicted. Bad part is highs in the single digits and lows of -10? predicted🥶 Hope i stay lucky!

Not much snow on the fields but the east/west roads are deep. I'll bet most will have to thaw down on there own.
1st pic is motor grader, 2nd pic is high loader east of my buddies.

Good Luck out there!  Ironic is that the snow is attracted to the roads when you have acres of land it could clog up.  Keeping my finger's crossed only had to dig my tractor out 2X this year. 45 degrees yesterday, 28 today!

:o careful out there Sammons.  I did something similar but luckily the back door wasn't locked.
Been snowing here off and on the past few days.  Went and did my dad's driveway.  He realized he couldn't muscle the snowblower around anymore. I'm glad he actually asked me for help.

Man those snowdrifts are deep.  That would put a stop to traffic real quick.

Woke up to 14-16" if snow this morning. It snowed all day yesterday but it didn't stick. Last night it did. My wife had a Doctor appointment this morning so we headed out to Carson at 7:30. Near 25 miles and never saw a snow plow. During storms they plow the wealthy areas first. That is not East of Carson City/Tahoe.
The propane truck was scheduled for tomorrow. That won't happen for a while. March? It's OK we need the moisture. You guys be careful out there!

Stay warm Sammons!  We got about 10 inches of snow earlier in the week but it got up in the 50's so most of it is gone now.
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

Thanks. Sounds like its all across the country. We got out of the high winds late yesterday, so feel pretty confident the power will stay on now. It did get up to 5? this afternoon. Couple more mornings of below zero left. It never got below zero last year, so i suppose we were due. Every couple years we get that. Usually once, sometimes twice a winter. Hopefully this was it for the winter🤞
