33 fenders and running boards....Questions
« on: April 11, 2015, 05:04:17 PM »
Put my fiber glass fenders on today...I purchased 2 inch wider one wanna run some wide tires on the back...Question  has any one blended the running board to the fenders  so running board will flow into the fenders??  Photo of what I am concerened about  and has anyone used the glue on mat on the running board that is being offered???  any pro or cons on the mat... Personally  I would like the smoothie look which will take more work but I am leaning that way

I have the stock fenders on my 33 but I have seen some cars with the running boards blended into the wider fenders.  I'll look through my pictures and see if I have any.  I bought the rubber mats from I&I.  The metal pieces that the original running board mats were glued to were too bad to reuse so I made new ones.  I used 1/4-20 pem studs to mount them so the heads would be flush.  I tack welded them so they wouldn't come loose.  I then used a Loctite product to glue the mats to the new pieces I made.
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

personally I would just mount the fenders as you are showing  them in the picture and not modify your running board.

you can make a flare that runs from the running board 3-5" forward, flaring out to match the fender. Make it out of piece wood and tape it to the run board and stand back to see if you like it.  Paint the wood piece black so it blends in with the fender and board.

If you look at Speedway they already make a piece to adapt the two inch wider fenders to the stock width running board.

yes and you can custom shape it so it actually looks like it might belong together.

Little bit of carving on some 1" thick pine ?? and use your belt sander to get that nice curve into the pocket of the L .

Get out the stool, fire up a stogie, slurp some suds. When all else fails call in wifie for opinion on your restyle

OK the slickest setup i have seen for this is that they cut the front behind the front fender and ran lake pipes back and had them come off of the running board right in front of the rear render  vette59jdwl

Their part number is 9003049  take a look at them, this is what they told me to use if I was going to put the wider fenders on my 32.

went to my 2015 catalogue I got a few days ago #503, under part number 900-3049, there is nothing listed like your describing and all the part numbers under the 900 series  on those pages in fiberglass section , do not come up with the 3046

My personal opinion  ??? when you try to blend the two, if not done carefully it might start looking too much like a molded or custom style of car. I do like the idea of a small triangulated piece with a slight outside curve to it mounted there. subtle and not to noticable.
That's all I have to say about that.  :-X

Fatnlow   What I did on my fenders to blend them. I cut a vee- notch in the running board so that I could pull the edge of the running board out where I wanted it, then I took some blocks of wood and screwed it threw the fiberglass to hold it in place then repaired the fiberglass that way I got a subtle flare.
